Phnom Penh authorities plan to shut down all clubs and bars operating during the daytime because students are choosing to party rather than attend school and study.

Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng said on Saturday at a ceremony at Samdech Hun Sen Phnom Penh Thmey High School that authorities had a plan to shut down all entertainment clubs running during the day because some students went there rather than their classes.

Moul Suy Heng, director of Preah Sisowath High School, said he supported the directive, especially if it could be implemented properly.

“The clubs can affect students’ studying,” he said.

City Hall spokesman Met Measpheakdey said the first step was to instruct all district authorities to send information to owners of the clubs.

“We asked all district authorities to send the directive to owners of clubs and if they do not follow the order, we will take further measures against them,” he said.
