Two of three suspects have been caught and charged with premeditated murder over the brutal killing of a couple in Tbong Khmun province.

On October 20 in Rokar Khnor commune, Kim Sengkeang, 48, and his wife, Huoch Pov, were slaughtered by unknown assailants in their home with a machete.

The couple were tied to a pole and suffered dozens of strikes to their heads and necks.

After the killing, the assailants fled without stealing any property.

Prak Bunthon, chief of the provincial major crimes unit, said two of three suspects were arrested on Friday and charged yesterday with premeditated murder.

Mr Bunthon declined to identify the suspects until the third was apprehended.

“We are now working hard and still seeking to arrest another suspect who has been at large,” he said. “We know his identity. We will arrest him soon.

“After we have arrested all of the suspects, we will hold a press conference and release, publicly, their identities.”

Mr Bunthon noted that the two suspects were from the same village as the victims and that a disagreement between the couple and the suspects was probably the motive for the murders.

Var Sambath, Kroch Chhmar district deputy police chief, said the suspects entered the victims’ home while they were sleeping and ambushed them.

“They entered the victims’ house while they were sleeping and killed them on a bloody pole,” he said. “After killing the two victims, they fled. They did not steal anything.”

Mr Sambath said the husband was slashed at least 15 times, and the wife at least nine times.

The suspects are facing life sentences if convicted.
