Police in Pailin province have arrested a drug trafficker at her house after receiving permission from the local court to track her movements.

Acting police chief Nop Sereyuth said officers raided the woman’s house in Pailin commune after providing the court prosecutor with evidence they had gathered over a period of time.

“We cannot just check the house of anyone without clear information,” said Mr Sereyuth. “Our raid was conducted with the permission of the court prosecutor.”

Police arrested Ol Eav, 53, also known as “Grandma Eav”, and her brother Chum Touch, 55, as well as seizing 11 small plastic bags of crystal meth and 94 pills.

Anti-drug police chief Phong Cheum said officers later released her brother.

“After questioning them both, we ascertained that only the lady was in charge of the drug dealing, while the man happened to be visiting her when we conducted the raid,” he said.

Mr Cheum described the lady as an active drug dealer, saying she had already been jailed three times for drug-related charges and had only been released from her latest sentence last month.

He said that due to her history officers had kept track of her activities and found out that she was still involved in dealing drugs.

Ms Eav is being detained by provincial police for further questioning.
