Six armed robbers were convicted yesterday by Kandal Provincial Court and sentenced to eight years each for stealing a businessman’s property in Mouk Kampol district.

Hul Sothy, 43, Chhay Phirum, 35, Huth Han, 32, Hin Chantha, 31, Heang Sopha, 43, and Heng Chena, 36, were charged with theft with aggravating circumstances and possession or transportation of weapons and firearms without permission.

Judge Say Samphos said they were arrested on March 5 and 6 by Kandal provincial police after a failed attempt to rob the owner of a construction materials shop.

Police confiscated three guns, including two pistols and an AK-47 rifle.

A police report said the six were an experienced gang of thieves and former prisoners. Mr Sothy was the mastermind. Mr Sothy and Mr Phirum had been sentenced previously to eight years in prison for theft with aggravating circumstances and were freed in 2014.
