A once famous singer was yesterday arrested along with two men for drug trafficking in Phnom Penh.

Teang Chansar, chief of Russey Keo district police, identified the singer as Oum Sokunthear and the two men as Sao Bunny, 31, and Keo Veth, 29.

They are accused of drug use and trafficking.

Mr Chansar said the trio was arrested at about 2.30pm after police raided a games shop in Toul Sangke commune.

After the raid, police seized three packages of crystal methamphetamine as well as other related drug materials from the suspects.

“They are still being interrogated at our police station,” Mr Chansar said. “We will send them to court after completing their questioning.”

Duong Phal, a police officer in Tuol Sangke commune, said Ms Sokunthear was a famous singer in 1998.

“Her fame at that time was not for her singing though,” he said. “It was because she was a very sexy girl who dared to wear mini-dresses and show her big cleavage.”
