A military officer was arrested on Monday afternoon over drug use and transportation accusations in Pursat province’s Veal Veng district.
Theng Leng, chief of Veal Veng district police, identified the officer as Second Lieutenant Touch Veasna, 28, with the 501st Military Regiment based in Thmar Da commune.
Mr Leng said the suspect was arrested at about 2.30pm while driving his motorbike across a police checkpoint in Thmar Da commune.
“He had hidden drugs in the bottom of his motorbike seat,” said Mr Leng. “He was caught red-handed.”
Mr Leng said police seized four small packages of crystal methamphetamine, weighing 2.8 grams, one mobile phone and a motorbike.
After his arrest, the suspect tested positive for drug use via a urine test, Mr Leng added.
