Police in Siem Reap province arrested six Chinese nationals for taking part in online gambling in a hotel room after a tip-off from the owner.
Provincial police chief Hou Vanny said the Chinese aroused the suspicion of staff whenever they ordered food.
“Before the arrest, we received a report from the hotel because when the Chinese ordered food on the phone, they never let the waiters inside,” he said.
“They always told them to place it in front of the room next to the door. We requested permission from the prosecutor to check the premises.
“We had good cooperation with the hotel to make sure we arrested them red-handed.”
Mr Vanny said officers gathered evidence including a computer that revealed online gambling with people in foreign countries.
He said the Chinese were sent to the provincial court.
Court spokesman Riem Chanmony said the prosecutor charged them under gambling laws.
The six were sent to the provincial prison on Friday. If found guilty, they could be jailed for up to five years.
