Smart Axiata, Cambodia’s leading mobile operator, and Major Cineplex announced last Friday a three-year partnership, granting the telecommunications service provider exclusive branding rights at all of Major Cineplex’s cinemas in the country.

The partnership will cover Major’s cinemas at Aeon Mall and Sorya Mall Centerpoint, as well as in the upcoming Aeon Mall 2 in Phnom Penh and at a new shopping centre in Siem Reap, according to the company’s press release.

As a result of the partnership, Smart customers are expected to gain multiple benefits such as priority ticketing lanes, ticket discounts, free monthly tickets, invitations to special screenings and VIP lounge access.

“While Smart is very active in the entertainment scene by organising world-class concerts, promoting local music talent and introducing new lifestyle propositions to our customers, we are thrilled about this partnership and the many possibilities that will come to fruition with it,” said Thomas Hundt, Smart Axiata’s CEO.

“In addition to our recent partnerships with iflix, JaikonTV and Sabay to bring entertainment content to Cambodians at a fingertip at affordable costs, we believe this alliance with Major will bring even greater enjoyment and choice to our joint customers,” Mr Hundt said.

Chy Sila, Major Cineplex Director, called the collaboration a proud moment and said he looked forward to working with Smart to help bring the best movies to more Cambodians.

“We are delighted to begin this new journey with Smart, which we are sure will result in some exciting times ahead,” he said.

“We were looking for a fun, dynamic brand with a young spirit and we believe that Smart has what it takes to achieve greater heights with us.

“The number of people coming to enjoy  our cinemas has continued to rise, and we are confident today’s announcement will help to ensure more movie fans for the future,” he added.
