A husband and wife were brutally killed on Saturday night in Tbong Khmum province when an unidentified suspect entered their home and butchered them with a machete.
Sok Sitha, Kroch Chhmar district deputy police chief, said the unknown assailant used the machete to first kill the husband by cutting his neck and face multiple times. The murderer then turned the knife upon the wife.
“The suspect entered their house while they were sleeping,” he said. “First, the suspect killed the husband by cutting him many times. “After killing the husband, the suspect killed the wife by cutting her face, head and neck,” he added. “After killing the two victims, the suspect fled.”
Mr Sitha said the murder took place at about 11.30pm in Rokar Khnor commune and the bodies of the victims were discovered by neighbours the next morning.
Mr Sitha identified the victims as Kim Sengkeang, 48, and his wife, Huoch Pov, both farmers.
He said the brutality of the murder clearly marks it as a crime of passion and possibly revenge, but noted police have not yet identified any suspects.
