Smugglers accused of attacking journalists

A group of journalists from Stung Treng province was reportedly beaten by illegal timber smugglers early yesterday.

The reporters were named as Chea Touch, 32, from Chab Dai News, Khim Sary, 40, from Cambodia Note News, Huon Lay, 43, from Nokor Kampuchea News, Khorn Khen from CRC TV online, as well as Khann Nith, 25, and Sang Nath, 35, from Khmer Projeaprey Newspaper.

A provincial police officer said the reporters filed a complaint with police over an assault by timber smugglers while on assignment.

A local news website said the reporters were threatened with sticks and an axe while they were covering the story. The smugglers also damaged their vehicle.
