A journalist has been summoned to appear at Mondulkiri Provincial Court on Wednesday over allegations she defamed the director of the local mines and energy department.
Provincial deputy prosecutor Mam Vanda identified the journalist as Chhun Ly.
Ms Ly is accused of damaging the reputation of San Darith, director of the Mondulkiri Department of Mines and Energy.
She allegedly posted accusations on Facebook saying Mr Darith received bribes from mining traders.
Mr Vanda said she would need to explain her actions in court after the plaintiff accused her of making false allegations against him.
Mr Darith said the journalist’s accusations were incorrect. “If she has any evidence, there is no problem, But if not, she will go to prison.”
“I had already told her to be careful and not just publish based on hearsay. Journalists have the right to publish and I have the right to make a complaint.”
Ms Ly could not be reached for comment yesterday. It is not known which media outlet she is employed by.
