Vitorino departs as Cambodia coach

Leonardo Vitorino’s stint as Cambodia’s head coach came to an end yesterday as it was announced he would depart from the kingdom’s football’s top job.

“I’m no more Cambodia national team head coach,” he said in a social media post.

“Thank you so Cambodia supporters to this great time here.

“I would like to say thank you so much to all peoples that I have the opportunity to work here from the staff, officials, players, managers and coaches.

“Sorry for not being able to change some things. I wish all the best to Cambodia Football Federation and thank you to the opportunity to lead this Nation.”

Vitorino, who took over from South Korean Lee Tae-hoon in March, has struggled at the helm of the senior national side with only one win over Afghanistan in July in competitive action.

However, the Brazilian claimed that overhauling Cambodian football was a long-term project, but Cambodia’s federation seemingly did not agree.

Cambodia will now need a replacement ahead of their final AFC Group match against Jordan next month.
