The Metfone C-League title charge of Ministry of National Defense suffered  an unexpected setback with a 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Electricite du Cambodge at the Old Stadium in Phnom Penh on Saturday.
 
Army, who went into the game in second-place in the league table, were two goals down at half-time with EDC scoring twice in quick succession before the break.
 
Chen Chum struck first in the 42nd minute, seizing on a punt forward my keeper Kong Rafath. The number 10 fought off his marker to poke the ball past Um Sereyrath in the Army goal.
 
Moments later, Sok Chanrasmey widened the gulf, tapping in Phanny Yratha’s layoff for the crucial second.
 
Ke Vannak was on hand to score an 85th minute consolation, heading home from a corner.
 
However, it was not enough as Army went down to only their second loss of the season.
 
In Siem Reap, an ill-tempered match between Cambodian Tiger and Western FC ended 3-2 in favour of the Tigers.
 
In Svay Rieng, league leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC restored their lead at the top with a 4-3 defeat of Asia Europe United.
