Preah Sihanouk provincial police on Saturday arrested a Vietnamese man believed to have been a drug trafficking ringleader.
Provincial Anti-Drug Police Unit officer Sok Vibol said his team had been actively searching for the suspect, 35-year-old Duong Ngoeng, because he was known for selling drugs at nightclubs and tourist areas.
Police found half a kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia in his possession when they apprehended him.
“The suspect was in a gang and an active drug trafficker in the province. He was arrested in accordance with a warrant issued by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court,” he said.
Mr Ngoeng was charged yesterday with drug trafficking by the provincial court prosecutor. He faces between one and five years behind bars and a fine of up to ten million riel (about $2,500) if found guilty.
His arrest comes after managing to evade police when they raided his home in July last year.
