Villagers in Preah Vihear’s Choam Ksan district who found a haul of unexploded ordinances on their farmland on Monday have handed it over to provincial authorities.
Youn Ret, district police chief, said the UXOs were found near the borders of Thailand and Laos.
“Local people reported them to village and commune authorities yesterday after they went out farming and found them,” he said. “There were 17 120mm UXOs and nine warheads.”
“All of them were rusty, but still active.
“We already handed them over to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre,” he added.
“They were found along the border between Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.”
Sin Kosal, the CMAC official who received the haul, said the UXOs were artillery munitions.
“We destroyed them all. They were still active. They were not from a warplane. They were fired from artillery and made in China,” he said.
According to Mr Kosal, all of explosives were destroyed on Monday.
