Two men were yesterday questioned in Phnom Penh Municipal Court over accusations they shot dead a construction worker in July following a drunken argument.
Sok Sothy, an officer with Chbar Ampov district police, identified the two suspects as Chea Cheysamnang, 25, and Kim Seanghai, 17, both unemployed.
Mr Sothy said the pair got into an argument with 24-year-old construction worker Vann Panha at a restaurant in Chbar Ampov district’s Kbal Koh commune on July 22.
He said that Mr Cheysamnang withdrew a pistol from his waist during the drunken row and shot the victim in the head twice, killing him immediately.
“After shooting the victim, they drove off on their motorbike and managed to escape,” he said. “Our police chased after them and they fired many bullets at officers, but did not injure any of our forces.”
Mr Sothy said the suspects were arrested on Friday in Chbar Ampov district’s Niroat commune. They were preliminarily charged with intentional murder and illegal use of a weapon.
He added that after their arrest, police confiscated a Honda Dream 100 motorbike, two shotguns and several bullets from them.
They have been detained awaiting further questioning in court.
