A senior police officer with the Ministry of Interior was arrested on Friday for spraying two security guards in the face with insect killer during a verbal argument.
Bun Kosal, a penal police office with Phnom Penh Municipal Court, identified the arrested official as Brigadier General Chamroeun Kosal, 44.
Mr Kosal said the accused was arrested late on Friday by municipal police after spraying Hem Sarom, 47, and Hoeung Maly, 49, in their faces outside the Sportex factory in Russey Keo district.
Mr Kosal said the accused had a verbal argument with the two security guards in front of the factory, after which he took the insect killer out of his car and sprayed them in their faces, causing injuries to their eyes.
The victims were rescued by local police and sent to hospital for treatment.
“After spraying the victims’ faces, he drove his car and managed to escape,” Mr Kosal said.
“He was arrested by police later that same night.”
Mr Kosal added that the victims remained in hospital and might face permanent damage to their eyes.
Teang Chansar, Russey Keo district police chief, said the accused has since been released, but the case remains open.
“We are still working and investigating the case,” he said, noting a report will be sent to the court upon completion.
Brig Gen Kosal could not be reached for comment yesterday.
