Four families have received a resolution in their land dispute with a sugar company’s economic land concession plantation in Preah Vihear province.

The families live in Chhaeb and Chey Sen districts.

Sean Parady of Chhaeb district’s Mjou Prey Pi commune said he was satisfied with the resolution.

“I am happy and will remember for the rest of my life that Prime Minister Hun Sen assigned Land Management Minister Chea Sophara to solve the dispute and that we got real justice,” he said.

In August, the Ministry of Land Management, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Agriculture held a meeting with stakeholders to find solutions for people locked in land disputes with sugar companies in Kompong Speu, Koh Kong, Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.

Executive director of Housing Rights Task Force Sia Phearum said the government is moving quickly to solve the disputes because there a national election is nearing in 2018.

Land Management Ministry spokesman Seng Lot said ministry officials have finalised reports related to the demarcation of land plots.

“We have already managed to  solve some disputes,” he said.
