The Funcinpec Party has officially filed a complaint requesting the dissolution of the opposition CNRP, while the Interior Ministry was reviewing a similar complaint made by the Cambodian Youth Party.
Prince Norodom Ranarridh submitted a complaint yesterday to the Interior Ministry asking that it take legal action to dissolve the opposition party.
The complaint was signed by party secretary-general Nhem Savy, who said Funcinpec supports the arrest of opposition CNRP leader Kem Sokha, who remains jailed on treason charges.
Prak Sam Oeun, director-general of the General Administration Department at the Interior Ministry, said officials are reviewing the complaints made by both parties.
“The Ministry of Interior is studying the case,” Mr Sam Oeun said.
He added that anyone can file a complaint to have the law implemented and that the final decision will be made by the justice system.
“As a principle of the criminal code, any person in society can file complaints to the authorities if they know of illegal activities that affect public interests or security,” he said.
