A 56-year-old farmer was arrested on Tuesday night for threatening to kill his 36-year-old son-in-law with an AK47 rifle in Kandal province.
Deputy district police chief Duong Chantha said the suspect Vong Thai had been drinking rice wine alone at home in Sa-ang district on the evening of the altercation.
The man’s son-in-law Chhiv Chhean, 36, came back to the family house and allegedly berated him for drinking every day, which led to an argument.
“He was angry at his son-in-law for looking down at him over his drinking. He went and took out an AK47 rifle that he had hidden and threatened to kill the victim,” Mr Chantha said. “The victim fled from the house and ran to our local police station for help.”
The suspect was apprehended later that night. After his arrest, police confiscated the AK47 and 30 bullets.
The suspect was preliminarily accused of unauthorised weapon possession and faces six months to three years in prison if convicted.
He will appear in Kandal provincial court for questioning today.
