Kampong Cham province’s Srey Santhor district police are investigating a case of food poisoning which made nearly 50 people ill.

District deputy police chief Try Buntheoun said the villagers often bought sandwiches with pork paste from Seam Vutha, who had been selling from the front of his house in the village without any problem before.

The villagers became sick on Friday and were taken to hospital or to a health centre.

“There were 48 villagers who suffered vomiting, headaches, diahorrea and stomach aches after they ate bread with pork paste,” he said.

“The provincial police chief ordered an investigation to find the real reason – whether it is because of the bread or whatever else because they did not eat this bread for the first time,” he said.

“They have eaten if for a long time.”

Provincial health department director Kimsour Phirun, Kampong Cham said the patients were better and none was seriously ill.

“Most of them have left hospital to go back home.”

In the first eight months of this year, at least four people died and more than 900 suffered food or wine poisoning, according to the Health Ministry.
