Three men were arrested on Monday for impersonating police officers and stealing a motorbike from a man in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district.

Touch Vibol, a Por Senchey district police officer, identified the suspects as Tum Samnang, 28, Sok Ratana, 35, and Nouv Noeun, 42.

Mr Vibol said the three suspects stole a motorbike from a man in Chom Chao commune on Sunday night at about 11.30pm.

The victim immediately notified local police, who chased the suspects, leading to their arrest that same night, he said.

“When we caught them, they said they were police officers working with the Ministry of Interior,” Mr Vibol said. “They said that they were on duty to patrol the city.”

“But when we asked them to show their police ID Cards, they did not have them,” he added. “They were fake police officers. We arrested them immediately.”

He added that after their arrests, police confiscated the stolen motorbike.

The suspects remain in police custody for further questioning in Por Senchey district.
