SOYO supports new Cambodian filmmakers

Srey Kumneth / Khmer Times No Comments Share:

Twelve Cambodian short films will be made available exclusively and free-of-charge from today on SOYO, Cambodia’s video streaming platform.

The video-on-demand platform in collaboration with the kingdom’s largest digital media group, Sabay Digital Group, is working with a Cambodian film production company, ComeTogether Films, to support the new generation of Cambodian filmmakers with funding and mentorship opportunities to produce new and fresh content as well as providing them
with a platform to showcase their films.

With their content tailored to the tastes of the Cambodian audience, the short films encompass chance encounters, funny situations, surprising twists, and bittersweet irony. The films include “Carpool,” “The Parrot,” “Suicide,” “Blind Date,” “Kidnap,” “The Train,” “One Love,” “Num Banh Chok” (Khmer Rice Noodles),  “Long Way Home,” “Product Placement,” “The Interview” and “The Traveller,” all available exclusively on SOYO for free.

Sang Chanvisal, writer and director of “Long Way Home” and “The Train,” said, “After I won the Silver Prize at the National Short Film Festival in 2016, I was inspired to make more films but I didn’t have the funds or the support that I needed to make good films.”

This opportunity has allowed him to bring his stories to life, which has helped him to grow, both in knowledge and experience, as a budding filmmaker, Mr Chanvisal added.

“We are happy to work with local film companies and support local film producers to bring exclusive content on SOYO,” said the company’s business development manager, Chheang Leng South.

Mr Leng South said SOYO has a lot of fresh and diverse content available for Cambodian users, who will also have access to exclusive content that reflects their tastes, anytime and on
any device.

The content is updated on a weekly to monthly basis and is available on both iOS and Android devices, and through your Internet browser. New SOYO subscribers are offered a stock of free content.

SOYO offers three types of subscriptions: daily for $0.19, weekly for $0.99, and monthly for $2.99.
