Boeung Ket FC recorded a resounding 4-0 thrashing of lowly Western FC in their Sunday return to domestic Metfone C-League action.
After a five week break in play for international commitments, Boeung Ket fans would have feared rust may have set in, but the defending Metfone C-League champions ended match week 15 fixtures with a valuable win away to Western.
A first-half opener from Brazilian striker Maycon de Calijuri and a second 25 minutes later from Nigerian midfielder Esoh Paul Omogba put the two-time league winners in the driving seat at half-time.
In the second period, a second goal of the game for Maycon was capped by a fourth and final goal from captain Khuon Laboravy to hand the play-off chasing Rubbermen a vital three points.
On 27 points, they now sit in fifth in the league standings, pushed out of the play-off qualification spots on goal difference by Ministry of National Defense.
Western, now with seven defeats, sit in eighth in the 12-team top division.
In Sunday’s other highlight, league-leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng were in no mood for niceties as they smashed six with no reply past visiting Electricite du Cambodge in a victory at the Svay Rieng Stadium.
The provincial side, on 34 points, now have a five point cushion at the top. NagaWorld and Phnom Penh Crown follow in second and third respectively.
The final league encounter of the day took place at the capital’s Army Stadium where National Police secured a 4-1 win over struggling CMAC.
