Nearly 20 kilograms of dried marijuana was discovered hidden within straw destined for transport to Vietnam in Takeo province on Friday.
According to a National Police report, police in Kirivong district discovered about 19 kilos of the hidden marijuana, but have not yet made any arrests.
Keo Soeun, commander of the border police in Sre Kmounh commune, said he had ordered police to conduct patrols on Friday, which led to the discovery.
“During the patrol, the villagers said to the Sre Kmounh commune police officials that something was hidden under a pile of straw and they did not know who kept it there,” said Mr Soeun.
Mr Soeun added that the group of police officials found three big plastic bags packed with dry marijuana hidden within the straw.
“The total of marijuana was 19.70 kilograms that the suspects left there in an attempt to traffic it to Vietnam,” he said. “We know this because the hiding place was about 400 metres from the Cambodia-Vietnam border.”
Mr Soeun said that an investigation remains open to find the owner of the drugs.
