Police in Battambang province’s Ek Phnom district arrested five men on Monday over the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Long Yothea Vireak, Ek Phnom district police chief, said yesterday that his police officials were hunting for the men since August 30, when the victim’s family filed a complaint.
According to police, the victim was invited over to her friend’s house on August 29, where he was waiting with four other men. The group then raped her.
“There are five suspects who were involved with the rape of the victim and they know each other because they live in the same village,” said Mr Yothea Vireak.
He said the suspects are also suspected of being drug users.
They have been sent to provincial police for further questioning before their first court appearance on accusations of raping a minor, he added.
