Pursat province police are hunting suspects in the brutal murder of a 19-year-old Vietnamese boy who was killed onboard a boat before being thrown in the Tonle Sap lake.
Chan Sokhom, a police officer with Krakor district police, named the victim as Lam Yaingsouy.
He said Mr Yaingsouy had borrowed a motorboat from his friend on Monday night, so he could sail across the lake and visit a Vietnamese community in Kampong Luong commune.
“The victim was alone in his boat when he was caught by a group of fishermen who wanted to steal his property,” Mr Sokhom said.
“After robbing the victim, the suspects killed him by stabbing him multiple times.
“They then threw the dead body of the victim into the water, sunk his boat and fled.”
He said the body of victim was found floating in the water by his family the following morning.
An examination of the body showed he was stabbed in the chest 12 times.
According to Mr Yaingsouy’s family, he had lost a luxury phone and a platinum necklace worth $200.
Em Run, chief of Krakor district police, said officers are working hard to track down those responsible.
“We are searching for the suspects in order to bring them to justice,” he said.
