Military police and forestry officials arrested two people and seized a vehicle loaded with luxury timber following a car chase in Stung Treng province yesterday.
The Toyota Camry involved in the case had been flagged down at a checkpoint in the provincial town, but failed to stop.
Military police gave chase and finally apprehended the suspects in Siem Bauk district.
Officers seized 55 pieces of luxury hardwood, equivalent to 4.5 cubic metres. Provincial forestry administration official Sok Sida said two people were arrested following the pursuit and charged with forestry crimes, as well as blocking the work of civil servants.
“They already confessed to the crimes,” he said.
