A suspected Lao drug trafficker has died of a heart attack in prison while awaiting trial.
Phenphan Nangao, 50, was arrested on Thursday on the Laos border in Stung Treng province with more than two kilos of crystal methamphetamine.
Mr Nangao, a farmer from Champasak district in Laos, had been charged with drug trafficking by the provincial court prosecutor.
The court investigating judge ordered his detention on Sunday.
Seng Sarun, deputy chief of the provincial police anti-drug trafficking unit, said Mr Nangao was caught with the drug as he drove a motorbike from the Lao border to Siem Pang district.
Mr Nangao’s body has been handed over to his family for his funeral.
