Anti-counterfeit police arrested a woman and confiscated about 1,300 kilos of fake lotion in Kandal province on Saturday.

Touch Yuthea, deputy secretariat of the Interior Ministry’s Counter Counterfeit Committee, said yesterday the fake lotion was being passed off for the brand name Love Riya.

Mr Yuthea identified the arrested woman as 32-year-old Chheng Sreyroth, whose Takhmao City home was raided by forces on Saturday.

Mr Yuthea added the suspect had been distributing the fake lotion over the internet.

“Before the raid, we received anonymous information from about 18 people who suspected the location was being used to illegally produce lotion which could harm consumers’ skin,” said Mr Yuthea.

Police seized 1,370 kilos of the lotion, and 31 other products suspected to be fake, he added.

Mr Yuthea said the provincial court has not yet laid charges against the suspect.

Kandal police chief Eav Chamroeun said other evidence seized included contact lists for online distribution, and other possible fake products such as acne cream and petroleum jelly.

“After the search, Kandal provincial deputy prosecutor Ek Sun Reaskmey handed over the seized evidence and Chheng Sreyroth to be detained at the Interior Ministry temporarily prior to her first court appearance,” he said.

Mr Sun Reaskmey could not be reached for comment.
