A drug convict escaped from Prey Veng provincial prison on Saturday and the prison director yesterday offered a $1,000 reward for information that leads to his recapture.
Meas Samnang, 47, was sentenced to 11 years in prison by the municipal court on a drug trafficking conviction in 2013. He was transferred to Prey Veng provincial prison in 2015.
Prison director Choum Sarim said Mr Samnang escaped when he was let out for labour duties on Saturday.
“I would like to offer an award of $1,000 to the forces of any unit who can recapture him,” Mr Sarim said.
Sreng Chea, the provincial police chief, said his officers had no leads to offer prison officials.
The prison was hit by scandal last month when prisoner Yem Bros, a serial robber, gained access to Facebook to begin a relationship with a woman in Kandal province, collecting nude photos of her before threatening to publish them unless she paid him $5,000.
Mr Bros confessed to the scheme and pointed the finger at prison deputy director Um Ra Yoeung for allowing him to carry it out.
Mr Sarim said an official decision over punishment for Mr Ra Yoeung had not yet been made.
