A farmer in Kampong Chhang province was charged yesterday with murdering his wife and throwing her body in a well to hide the evidence.
Chuch Eth, 45, was arrested for slitting the throat of El Sim, 42, at their house in Trangil commune, Kampong Leng district, on the night of June 29.
Police officer Veng Sakhorn with the major crimes unit said the suspect was charged with pre-meditated murder and was facing a life sentence if convicted.
Mr Eth was arrested by provincial police on Tuesday after being on the run for two months, he added.
Mr Sakhorn said that on the night of the murder, Mr Eth got drunk and accused Ms Sim of having an affair with a young man in the village.
During the argument, he began to beat his wife and tried to force her to make a confession, but Ms Sim denied the allegations, he said.
“He took a long knife and cut her many times on the neck,” Mr Sakhorn said. “After killing her, he brought her body to an abandoned well in the village and left her there, before fleeing from the house.”
Ms Sim’s body was found by villagers the next morning and reported to local police.
