Inspired by developments in the tech world, Pum Sothearoth, 27, intends to use his skills in 2D and 3D animation design, which he has studied for almost 10 years, to show the world that Cambodians can also achieve great things in the arena of computer animation.
Mr Sothearoth has loved animation since he was young – even before 3D animation was widely known.
Curiosity was the main motivation for Mr Sothearoth becoming a 2D and 3D programmer. He started studying and has been learning and research it ever since.
Noticing that the field was still undeveloped in Cambodia, Mr Sothearoth learned how to design 2D/3D animation and now wants to show the world that it is something that Cambodians can excel at.
“In Cambodia, when I was starting out, it was unusual to see someone doing it; that’s what made me want to do it. I also want to bring Cambodian 3D movies to the world,” Mr Sothearoth said.
Mr Sothearoth has also worked on a Khmer-language 3D photo-capture application called Osja AR.
One challenge Mr Sothearoth has faced while learning to design 3D animation is that there is no one else around to discuss problems with, due to the lack of human resources in this sector in Cambodia.
