A military officer and member of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s bodyguard unit was arrested on Wednesday after firing nearly 10 bullets at a bus that hit his car.
Seng Sarun, a police officer with the municipal major crimes police unit, identified the suspect as Captain Eng Kosal, 37.
Mr Sarun said that at about 9pm on Wednesday in Russey Keo district’s Tuol Sangke commune, Capt Kosal was driving along Road 598 when he had a minor collision with a BPA Transport bus.
The bus driver did not stop to settle the incident and fled.
“He was angry at the bus driver for hitting his car and not stopping,” said Mr Sarun.
“He then chased after the bus. To stop the bus driver, he fired nine shots at the bus, damaging its mirrors but no one was injured.”
“He was later arrested by our local police,” Mr Sarun added. Mr Sarun said that after the arrest, police confiscated a pistol and bullets from the suspect.
Mr Sarun said Capt Kosal was accused of illegal weapons use and intentional damage to property. He would appear in court today.
