Siem Reap police have shut down a private dental clinic and arrested the owner for operating without a licence.
Anti-economic crimes police chief Soeun Sen said yesterday that his officials cooperated with the Health Department to close down the Heng Mongkol clinic, located in Siem Reap town’s Slokram commune, on Wednesday.
The owner, Lymeng Horn, was released after promising to discontinue his business.
“We decided to close the dental clinic, but we allowed the owner to go home after he signed a contract to close his dental practice,” said Mr Sen. “The dentist did not learn this skill from a school, but from his relatives. So, we cannot allow him to do it anymore.”
“We have started to close all the unlicensed dental clinics,” Mr Sen added. “We cannot degrade our health system due to these illegal and non-professional dentists.”
Meanwhile, another unlicensed dental clinic in Preah Vihear province’s Choam Khsan district was closed yesterday and the owner made to sign a contract not to open again.
According to the police report, the dental clinic was called Ty Mada and run by Ty Mada.
“If we open illegally, we will face the law,” Mr Mada said when contacted. “I agreed to close my dental clinic. If I open it again, I will be in trouble with the law.”
