Hundreds of unexploded landmines and cluster munitions were found in Battambang and Kampong Cham provinces on Monday, according to an official from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre.
Director General of CMAC Heng Ratana posted on Facebook yesterday that CMAC teams in Battambang province had found a double anti-tank landmine, 67 landmines and unexploded ordnance.
On the same day, CMAC experts in Kampong Cham province also discovered 58 UXOs and 40 cluster munitions.
“Within a day, CMAC experts have found and destroyed almost 300 landmines and UXOs,” said Mr Ratana. “This is how we rescue our people, and our nation, from the explosive remnants of war. We are very proud of our experts, who have been working very hard and with good discipline, to ensure the safety of the people in this kingdom.”
Mr Ratana added that the CMAC teams devoted their lives for others.
Mr Ratana could not be reached yesterday for further comment.
The Cambodian Mine Action Authority reported a 37 percent decrease in casualties caused by landmines and UXO in the first six months of the year, compared to the same period in 2016.
