More than 40 garment workers fainted from fear of a ghost spirit yesterday at the New Orient Garment factory in Canadia Industrial Park.

According to Bun Van, chief of the Coalition of Cambodia Apparel Workers Democratic Union, this is the second time workers have fainted due to the spirit this week.

Most who fainted yesterday were the same workers who fainted on Monday, he added.

“It is not a problem with the factory’s environment, but from fear of the ghost spirit. It is our Khmer superstition. Now we will do a blessing for them,” he said.

He added that the company allowed all workers who fainted to have a rest day, including some who didn’t faint.

Yem Saran, a police chief of Por Sen Chey district said at first, there were only a few workers who fainted and vomited, but then more workers started to faint.

On Monday, some 35 workers fainted at the garment factory due to mass hysteria after news spread of one staff member being possessed by a ghost spirit.
