Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged two garment factory security guards with theft over the disappearance of 15,000 hats worth an estimated $30,000.

Touch Vibol, a police officer with Por Senchey district police, identified the suspects as Chin Horm, 21, and Bien Sochan, 25, both overnight guards employed by the CGS Company to guard the Chinese-owned Prammuoy Choan Garment Factory in Chom Chao commune. They were arrested on Tuesday.

Mr Vibol said that on the night of July 23 at about 11.30 pm, the two suspects looted about 15,000 hats from the garment factory.

Their activity was discovered by the factory owner when CCTV footage was reviewed. The owner filed a lawsuit against them with district police. “They were arrested based on their images in the CCTV footage,” said Mr Vibol, adding that they face two to five years in prison if convicted.
