A 31-year-old businesswoman was charged in Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Saturday for issuing bad cheques worth more than $4 million in an attempt to clear her debts.
The suspect was identified as Kim Chansno, a real estate businesswoman living in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district.
Ly Sarith, a penal police officer with the municipal minor crimes unit, said Ms Chansno was arrested on August 1 in accordance with a court warrant issued after a complaint made by Attwood Company.
The firm accused her of issuing bad cheques to pay back debts related to the purchase of construction materials in 2016.
She has been detained in Prey Sar prison pending further investigations into the alleged offence. “She faces one to two years in prison if convicted,” Mr Sarith said.
