Three fishermen were charged yesterday with murdering a 26-year-old fellow worker in a drunken argument by beating him unconsciousness and throwing him into the sea to drown.
The murder took place at Tumnob Rolork Port in Preah Sihanouk province on Thursday night.
The accused are Ham Kea, 25, Un Del, 48, and Keuth Sangha, 42. All are fishermen who lived on their boats at the sea port.
The victim was identified as Sam An.
Sihanoukville police officer Sok Visal said witnesses reported that the suspects and the victim, who were friends, drank beer together on the victim’s fishing boat.
The suspects argued with the victim, angered because he was younger but was impolite and did not respect them.
Together they beat him unconscious and threw him into the sea where he drowned. They then fled.
The victim’s body was found floating near the port the next morning. Villagers reported it to police.
Sihanoukville police chief Phol Phosda said the suspects were charged by the prosecutor of the provincial court with intentional murder.
They face up to 15 years in jail each if convicted.
