Koh Kong provincial police yesterday raided the Dara Thmey Koh Kong guesthouse, arresting 16 people for drug abuse and gambling, six of whom were released after being educated.
A Khemrak Phoumin town police officer said the guesthouse was raided by provincial police officers along with a court prosecutor.
“I was invited to join the operation, but the case was dealt with by the provincial police,” he said, declining to comment further.
Provincial police officer Kim Kakada said ten of the 16 arrested were being detained and questioned at the provincial police station on drug charges.
“The crackdown followed an investigation by the anti-drugs office,” he said. “We arrested 16 people, but only ten of them are being detained in police custody, while the other six who were involved only in gambling were released after education.”
All 16 were guests renting rooms at the Dara Thmey Koh Kong guesthouse and the owner was not arrested, said Mr Kakada.
When asked why the guesthouse owner was not arrested, Mr Kakada said: “She was not aware of their illegal activity. The tenants rented out the rooms, took drugs and gambled. How could she know?”
