With the Metfone Cambodia League (MCL) title just a few games away, Boeung Ket football club has reinforced their already star-studded line-up, adding one of the most prolific scorers in Cambodia’s top football league.

The club confirmed via its website that it has acquired striker Dzarma Bata Debiro on loan from Angkor Tiger FC. Dzarma Bata will play for Boeung Ket FC in the second leg of the MCL.

Angkor Tiger FC, likewise, confirmed the deal in a Facebook post and wished the Nigerian forward success in his career.

“Thanks to Dzarma Bata for his contributions to the team over the years. We wish you success,” the Siem Reap-based club said.

The second leg will start on September 5 and a month later, with Boeung Ket FC pitted against reigning champions Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC and four other teams.

Boeung Ket FC are among the favourites to win this year’s title after topping the first round. It is also the only unbeaten team in the tournament. Angkor Tiger FC, meanwhile, are out of the running for the title this year after falling to seventh spot at the conclusion of the first round.

The addition of Dzarma Bata will add firepower to a team that already boasts
many star players, such as Cambodian forwards Mat Noron, Chan Vathanaka and Sieng Chanthea and South African striker Mothusi Gopane.

Dzarma Bata will also take the place of Brazilian striker Franc Santana Paiva, who left for home earlier to attend to personal matters.

“First, I would like to thank the management of Angkor Tiger, who offered Bata to us. I believe he can quickly adapt back to our playing style, as he used to play for us. He also has a good relationship with the technical team and other players,” interim coach Kim Pheakdey said.

“We are hoping that his skills and experience will help us in many areas,” he added.

Dzarma Bata joined Angkor Tiger FC early this year and immediately made an impact for the team. He netted a hat-trick in Angkor Tiger’s first win in the tournament, a 3-0 rout of Soltilo Angkor FC in February.

Last year, Dzarma Bata was the second highest goal-scorer in the Cambodian League, with 35 goals to his name while playing for the Army team and Phnom Penh Crown FC in 2019. His total was a goal shy of the 36 registered by top-scorer Jean Befolo “Privat” Mbarga of Cameroon.

This will be the second Boeung Ket stint for Dzarma Bata, who was with the club when it won the Cambodian League title in 2016. Dzarma Bata also had a stint with PKR Svay Rieng FC.
