Last Friday evening, the Singapore Embassy in Cambodia hosted a SG United dinner, marking the country’s 55th National Day, celebrated annually on 9th of August and additionally to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relation between Cambodia and Singapore.
For the occasion, the dinner saw honoured guests and Singapore Club Cambodia members gracing a dinner at Banana Leaf Restaurant in the capital.
The casual dinner saw Albert Tan, President of Singapore Club Cambodia (SCC), delivering a speech thanking the Singapore Embassy for organising this event in honour of Singapore’s 55th National Day. Mr. Tan mentioned that the pandemic has affected several businesses.
Singapore Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Michael Tan expressed contentment during the event, adding this year’s theme is to make Singapore stronger, thus the gathering to mark this auspicious occasion.
However, as this year’s event was abruptly modified due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ambassador mentioned that the Embassy has kept an eye on the evolution of the pandemic in Cambodia thus, limiting the invitees for the event and respecting strong protocol of social distancing measures.
Several Singaporeans from Kampong Cham, Siem Reap and other province had made the journey to join the event.
The event also saw certificates of appreciation presented by the Ambassador to Ng Bee Sun, Weng Aow and Stella Toh, in recognition of their devotion and hard work in recent years in Cambodia.
Ending his speech, Ambassador Tan, also mentioned that his 4 years and a half will be coming to an end in December 2020.
Due to the pandemic, the Singapore Embassy in Cambodia choose to keep low profile with festivities this year, hosting only small gatherings with strong adherence to social distancing protocols.
