In a bid to ease traffic congestion, the new Phnom Penh governor on Friday held a meeting with all district governors to select 11 main roads to be freed of vendors and street side parking.
Phnom Penh governor Khoung Sreng identified the 11 roads on his Facebook page following the meeting.
The 11 streets include Norodom Boulevard, Sisowath Boulevard, Sihanouk Boulevard, Monivong Boulevard, Russian Boulevard, Mao Tse Toung Boulevard, Kampuchea Krom Boulevard, Moniret Boulevard, Charles De Gaulle street, Street 271 and Street 70.
City Hall spokesman Met Meas Pheakdey could not be reached for comment yesterday.
But Governor Sreng explained on his Facebook page that district governors where the roads run have been tasked with preparing the streets to be freed of street-side vendors and parking.
Yesterday, Chbar Ampov district officials began the clearance work, angering some street-side vendors.
“I understand why they are doing it, but we are also asking for their pity because we having been selling food along the road for a long time to support our families,” said Nhem Nak.
