Trade of wild orchid flowers, typically found in the Kingdom’s protected areas, has officially been banned following yesterday’s announcement by the Ministry of Environment.

The announcement was made after several posts on social media advertised the sale of the said plant at a steep price.

“It has encouraged the uncontrolled harvesting of orchid flowers in protected forests, which in turn could lead to the extinction the plant family,” the statement said.

As such, the ministry called on authorities of all protected areas to monitor and stop any cases of wild orchid plant trade, as well as strengthen awareness-raising campaigns about sustainable eco-livelihoods among local communities.
