Two Chinese men have been arrested for running an illegal online gambling business in Preah Sihanouk province.

Police confiscated three laptops and 10 mobile phones from Yu Yi Jiang, 32, and Lu Jie Bin, 25, following a raid of their rented accommodation on Wednesday.

Provincial immigration police officer Bun Chanrith said the two suspects had been running the illegal gambling business from the rental property in Sangkat 2, Preah Sihanouk City.

“They were arrested after provincial immigration police raided their room, where they were allowing other Chinese gamblers to play games online,” he said.

“The gamblers managed to flee while the raid was in progress.”

The suspects stand accused of running an illegal gambling business and face between one and five years in prison, plus fines of five to 20 million riel ($1,500-$5,000) if convicted.

Mr Chanrith said the suspects have been temporarily detained at the immigration police unit and will be sent to Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court for questioning today.
