PM urges participation in ensuring fisheries resources’ sustainability

Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged the public and competent authorities to take part in the fish and other biodiversity conservation in order to ensure the sustainability of fisheries resources.

He made the appeal in his message on his official Facebook page Wednesday on the occasion of the National Fishery Day.

“National Fishery Day is an important event celebrated annually to raise people’s awareness and encourage them not only to participate in preserving fish species in natural waters, but also to increase fish production […],” he said.

According to a research conducted by WorldFish organisation in cooperation with the Freshwater Fisheries Development and Research Institute of Cambodia’s Fisheries Administration, Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, each Cambodian household consumes some 5,3 kilogrammes of fish five times a week and 63 percent of rural people have jobs related to fishing.
