The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a strong weather warning yesterday for coastal, plains and plateau areas, from yesterday to June 5, especially along coastal areas where the ocean swell is expected to reach one to two-and-a-half meters.
According to the ministry’s statement, the weather can be attributed to the incoming monsoon season.
“From May 26-28, please be careful with the heavy rain and storms at the coastal areas where the sea’s waves can increase to between one meter and two-and-a-half meters,” it said.
National Committee for Disaster Management spokesman Keo Vy said that in the first five months of this year, seven people died and 108 people were injured by storms.
A total of 978 houses were destroyed by storms while more than 4,000 houses had their roofs or walls destroyed. Up to 25 administrative buildings, such as hospitals, and pagodas had been affected by the wild weather. Seven people died and 108 people were injured by storms so far this year.
