A father discovered his daughter dead, with her throat slit, early yesterday in Kampong Speu province.
Seng Saroeun, deputy chief of Kong Pisey district police, identified the victim as Mon Kunthear, 29.
Mr Saroeun said she was likely killed shortly after midnight yesterday as she slept alone in her Ang Porpeal commune home.
Mr Saroeun said the victim’s father discovered her body at about 5am when he stopped by her home to drop off some petrol.
No suspects have yet to be identified, he added.
“The suspects entered her house while she was sleeping alone,” he said. “They caught her and slashed her throat, killing her immediately.”
“After killing her, the suspects stole her necklace and other things of value and fled from the area,” he added.
Sam Bora, chief of the provincial major crimes unit, said that the case is being treated as a murder, but a clear motive had not yet been determined.
“Police are working hard on this case to find the suspects and bring them to justice,” he said.
