A new entertainment app offering both locals content – much of it exclusive – and international fare has been developed by Cambodian tech firm SOYO. The app is designed for use on smartphones, tablets, Internet browsers and TV using Google Chrome cast or Apple TV. Cambodia’s first locally made online video-on-demand platform offers a variety of local and international movies and TV shows specifically curated, dubbed and subtitled in Khmer for a Cambodian audience.
The app is aimed at the legions of Cambodian movie lovers, said SOYO business development manager South Chheang Leng. “Our company is so excited to enter this fast-moving market, which has so many entertainment lovers. SOYO subscribers in Cambodia will find it easier to access thousands of movies and TV series from Cambodia, Thailand, Korea and elsewhere.”
Mr Chheang Leng said SOYO was excited about serving the local market and contributing to the ever-changing entertainment technology sector in Cambodia, adding that the country’s overall digital and mobile landscape is in a state of constant flux.
SOYO is committed to leading that change, Mr Chheang Leng said, adding that its immediate plan is to offer short films, comedy shows, chat shows and branded entertainment that is exclusively produced for the platform.
SOYO plans to work with and support the Cambodian film industry to provide the best original local content to audiences, and to give consumers more options. Content is updated on a weekly to monthly basis and is available on iOS (coming soon), Android and through your Internet browser.
Three types of subscription are currently available: Daily (800 riel or $0.19), weekly (4,000 riel or $0.99) and monthly (12,000 riel or $2.99). Subscription is supported by payment through Sabay Coin, Cellcard, Smart, Metfone, ACLEDA, Pay & Go, and Wing.
